Ardelle M. Stenberg 1931—2018
Ardelle M. Stenberg, 86, of Rockford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Morning Star Village. Born June 2, 1931, in Solem Township, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar and Ruth (Bakke) Mattson. She was a graduate of East High School, Class of 1949. Ardelle married LeRoy Stenberg on December 8, 1951, at Zion Lutheran Church. Together they had a son, Charles, who predeceased her. LeRoy predeceased her on February 25, 1998. She worked ten years at Sundstrand before opening Ekstrom Confectionary, where she retired in 2004. A member of Zion Lutheran Church since 1941. Ardelle loved to bowl, read and enjoyed all of her customers over the 44 years at Ekstrom Confectionary. She was a very social person who had a special way of caring for the homeless or anyone in need. Survived by many Swedish and Norwegian cousins and friends; special friends, Tammy (Bob) and family, April (Dave) and family, Cheryl, Kelly and Aaron, Judy and Al, Judy and Joe, Smitty, and Gene Fisher; and many friends from Ekstroms. Also predeceased by sister, Silvia Mattson. Thank you to the staff at Morning Star Village.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, with Reverend Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the chapel. Burial at Scandinavian Cemetery.
