Phyllis Weir 1926—2021

Phyllis Weir, 95, of Rockford, passed away September 12, 2021 at OSF St. Anthony Hospital. Born June 8, 1926 in Rockford, the daughter of Frank and Hulda (Moberg) Mooney. Graduate of Rockford East High School. Phyllis married Donald R. Weir on July 11, 1948 and they shared 70 years together. He predeceased her August 19, 2018. Phyllis worked as a bookkeeper at Illinois National Bank. She was an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she also volunteered on the Building & Grounds Committee, Women's Organization – WELCA, Altar Guild and organized funeral luncheons. Phyllis was also on the Board of Directors for YWCA. Survived by her sons, Alan (Pamela) Weir and David Weir; three grandchildren, Dale Weir, Dana Weir and Jarod Weir. Also predeceased by her parents; brother, Ralph (Mona) Mooney; and sisters, Dorothy Mooney and Frances Mooney.

Memorial service will be held 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 920 3rd Ave., Rockford, with Reverend Frank Langholf officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 11:45 prior to the service. Masks are required at Church. Private family burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
