Mavis L. Kerr 1924—2021
ROCKFORD – Mavis L. Kerr (nee Riegert), 96, Rockford, died Saturday January 30, 2021 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center of COVID-19. She was born December 7, 1924 in Janesville, WI, daughter of Jacob and Annazetta Riegert. Mavis was married on March 25, 1944 to Carl Kerr and the couple celebrated 70 years together in 2014. She moved to Rockford after graduating high school and worked in several careers during her life, including a long stint as a bookkeeper - for Welder's Supply, Industrial Molds, and Kishwaukee Auto Parts. She also graduated from Rockford Cosmetology School as a hairdresser later in life and loved working with her clients. She and Carl were long time members of First Lutheran Church, and were long time members of Lyran Club. Her passions were her family and her church. She is predeceased by husband Carl (2014), and her parents and her five brothers: David, Bill, Herbert, Calvin, and Harry. Survivors include daughter Barbara C. Peterson (Tom) of Keowee Key, SC; sons David of Lincolnwood, IL and Steven of Rockford; Grandsons Mark (Jen) Flores, Matthew (Jen) Flores, Nathan (Andrea) Kerr; Granddaughter Jordan Kerr (Austin Thomas); great grandchildren Maddie, Jack, Katie, and Jake; and several nieces and nephews.
Because of COVID-19, there will be no funeral service except for close family members. A memorial service at First Lutheran Church later in 2021 is contemplated.
