Obituary

Kathryn M. “Kay” Lamphere, 92, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Born September 7, 1930, in Chicago, the daughter of Albert and Naomi (Svaren) Johnson. Graduate of East High School, Class of 1948. She attended SwedishAmerican Hospital School of Nursing and graduated from Rock Valley College School of Nursing in 1972. Kay married Dr. George E. Lamphere on November 1, 1978. He predeceased her on July 27, 1996. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Maple Crest Nursing Home in Belvidere and Fairhaven Retirement Center. Kay was a member of Alpine Lutheran Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, choir member and church volunteer. She was also a member of the Alabet Temple #31 Daughter of the Nile, charter member of Daniel Post #864 Auxiliary of the American Legion, and former member of Guilford Hope Grange #6. Kay also volunteered at Walter Lawson Home, Alabet Temple, Klehm Arboretum, Rockford Memorial Hospital, and Fairhaven Retirement Center.

Survived by her children, Steven (Judi) Cross, Larry (Ardis) Cross, and Sharon Cross; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew. Also predeceased by her parents and son, Charles Cross.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Alpine Lutheran Church, 5001 Forest View Ave., Rockford. Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alpine Lutheran Church. To share a memory or condolence, visit olsonfh.com.
