Obituary

Virginia M. Forsgren, 94, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born May 22, 1928, in Rockford, the daughter of Gunnard and Ethel H. (Swenson) Sjoblom. Graduate of East High School, Class of 1945. Virginia married Lennart A. Forsgren on January 23, 1954. He predeceased her on February 8, 2013. After high school graduation she worked in the out-patient clinic at Camp Grant admitting patients until the clinic closed in 1946. She then worked for 4 years as a bookkeeper for J.C. Penney Company on West State Street and then at Damascus Steel Products until 1954. Member of First Assembly Church. Virginia was confirmed and married at Zion Lutheran Church where she also loved to sing. She was also a member of Oland Club, Swedish Historical Society, a Pink Lady volunteer at Rockford Memorial Hospital, delivered meals on wheels volunteered and served as an Election Judge. Virginia and Lennart took the most enjoyable trip to the Holy Land in 1983 and a trip to Sweden to meet her relatives for the first time and visit with many of her friends. She and Lennart hosted Young Life and Youth Encounters in their home. She adored her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, her joy in life was being with and taking care of them. Virginia also enjoyed ceramics. She spent winters in Fountain Hills, AZ with Lennart.

Survived by her daughter, Denise (Alan) Fielder; grandchildren, Emilie (Clark) Lindsay and Erik (Annie) Fielder, Michael (Jessica) Forsgren, and Kristina (Brandin) Waters and their mother, Jan Forsgren; great-grandchildren, Joanna & Andrew, Maxwell, Aspen, Ellerie , Onnika , and another on the way; and many cousins in Rockford, Sweden and Norway. Also predeceased by her parents; and son, Steven.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Chapel at City First Church, 5950 Spring Creek Rd., Rockford with Pastor Mark Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery at a later date.
