Carl Axel Delven Adolphson 1925—2016
Carl Axel Delven Adolphson, 91, of Rockford, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 8, 2016. He was born May 3, 1925, to Axel and Alida (Olin) Adolphson. Carl graduated from East High in 1943. Carl served in the United Sates Navy during WWII. He married Dorothy Van Nest on June 25, 1950, in Rockford, after graduating from Northern Illinois University. He earned his masters degree from Washington State University through the National Science Foundation. Carl taught math at East High for 33 years, retiring in 1984. He then taught math at Alconbury Air Force Base in England from 1985-1991. Carl also worked at City National Bank for 34 years. He was longtime member of Salem Lutheran Church, avid traveler and tennis player until the age of 88. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy; daughters, Carla Williams and Denise (Tom) Root; grandchildren, Erin (Karl) Dellenbach, Laura (Dominic) Ruggiero, Melissa Williams, Ben (Amanda Estrada) Williams, Porter Williams, Kyle (Rachael) Root, and Austin Root; great-grandchildren, Ryder Dellenbach, Lincoln Ruggiero, Benson Williams and Adelynn Root. He is also survived by brother, Don (Nancy) Adolphson; sister, Kay Redenius; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, brother, Ed; and sister, Irene.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, with Rev. William Dahlberg officiating. Visitation will be from noon until 1:15 p.m. prior to the service in the chapel. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
