Obituary

Louise P. Hemenway, 93, of Rockford, passed away February 8, 2023. Born on July 6, 1929 to Albin and Esther (Johnson) Kjellstrom. Louise graduated from East High School in 1947. She married Alvin J. Hemenway on August 7, 1948. He predeceased her on January 17, 2009. Louise and Alvin traveled to all fifty states and visited several countries. Louise worked as a secretary at Rolling Green Elementary School for 21 years. She retired in 1986. Louise was a member of the Illinois League of Municipal Employees, Rockford Association of Retired Educational Office Personnel, Rockford Seniors Volunteer Association, and a past member of the Par Tee Woman’s Golf League. For many years she volunteered at the Fairhaven Christian Health Retirement Center and Gift Shop and was the editor of the Fairhaven Family News for over twenty years. Louise was also a member of Alpine Lutheran Church since 1964. She was a former member of Salem Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir, and served on the bereavement committee.

Louise is survived by daughter, Susan (William) Lovitt of Cherry Valley; daughter-in-law Pamela Hemenway; grandchildren, Nicole (Christopher) Griffith of Dekalb, Andrew (Charity) Lovitt of Redmond, WA., Nathan (Alice) Hemenway of Rockford, Richard (Karla) Lovitt of Belvidere, and Rebecca (Elliott) Kallstrom of Belvidere; great-grandchildren, Barrett, Henry, Graham Griffith, Charlotte and Elizabeth Kallstrom, Karter and Kamden Lovitt. She is predeceased by her husband Alvin; parents, son Steven, sister Ruth Baxter, brothers, Dr. Theodore Kjellstrom and William Kjellstrom.

Louise will be remembered for her love of God, family and friends, her smile, hugs, and sense of humor. Her family would like to thank the Fairhaven staff and Northern Illinois Hospice for their comfort and care.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., February 15, 2023 at Alpine Lutheran Church, 5001 Forest View Ave, Rockford, IL.,61108 with Reverend Dan Wynard officiating. A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Avenue, Rockford, IL. and also, from 10:00- 10:45 a.m. at Church the day of the service. Interment will be at Scandinavian Cemetery.
