Obituary

Wesley Walter Nelson, 83, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Born July 17, 1939 in Rockford, the second son of Walter E. and Doris (Sandstrom) Nelson. Graduate of Rockford East High School, Class of 1957, where he was a member of the band, football team, and ROTC. Attended North Park College and graduated from University of Illinois 1963, BA Architecture. He worked as an architect and project manager in Rockford. In 1964 he married Susan Holmes. A charter member of Broadway Covenant Church, he sang in the choir and served in several leadership positions. He spent many hours volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and Covenant Harbor Bible Camp. He played trombone in the Christian Fellowship Band for many years. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Bears and Cubs, but his favorite was cheering on his grandsons. He loved boating, traveling, music, time with family and was proud of his Swedish heritage.

Survived by wife Susan, son Douglas, daughter Amy (Jeff) Loewe, grandchildren Trevor (Olivia) and Ryan Loewe, brothers Arnold (Carol) and Stuart (Marla) Nelson and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Memorial service to be held at 11:00 am on December 5, 2022 at Broadway Covenant Church; 3525 Broadway, Rockford with Rev. Mike Mirakian. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broadway Covenant Church or Covenant Harbor Bible Camp 1724 W. Main St. Lake Geneva, WI 53147.
