Obituary

Jesse B. McGough went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, August 10, 2021 after courageously fighting serious medical issues for many years.

Born in Fayette, AL on May 28, 1942 to Thomas and Leona (Jenkins) McGough. Graduated from Rockford East High School in 1961. He married Phyllis Strommer on December 7, 1963 (Pearl Harbor Day) at First Church of the Open Bible in Loves Park, IL. After their minister pronounced them married, he declared “let the battles begin!” and though they were indeed battles, they faced them together and cherished each other for nearly 58 years. Jess began working at Amerock and was employed there for 42 years. Two children, Andrea and Jeffrey, completed their family.

Jess was an avid bowler and golf was his passion. He loved southern gospel and country music and never tired of watching westerns. A wonderful husband and father, his greatest joys were his three grandchildren and he relished his role as “Little Papa.”

Jess is survived by his wife, Phyllis McGough; daughter, Andrea McGough of Rockford, IL; son, Jeff (Rebecca) McGough; grandsons, Jacob McGough, Michael McGough; granddaughter, Kaylin McGough of Machesney Park, IL; sisters, Christine Hoffman of Rockford, IL and Dora Tesser of Clive, IA. Predeceased by parents; and brothers, David and Frank McGough.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2021 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park with a visitation from 12:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
