Obituary

Betty M. Lundvall, age 92, died Sunday, December 4, 2022, at Ascension Living St. Anne Place. Betty was born on March 25, 1930, in Boone, Iowa, to Martin Lundvall, and Hilma Engberg Lundvall, and raised by her Uncle David Lundvall, and Aunt Ethel Lundvall.

After high school, Betty graduated from nursing school at Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in the Spring of 1953, moved to Rockford, IL, and began her nursing career at Swedish American Hospital. Betty worked at the hospital until her retirement in 1992. She served in various administrative positions at the hospital, interacted, and trained many nurses that still remember her dedication today.

Betty spent her retirement years volunteering at her church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization, and making monthly visits to patients at the Madison, WI, VA Hospital.

Betty is survived by nephews, David (Helen) Zahller, John (Sara) Lundvall, Tom (Dawn) Lundvall, Marty Lundvall, Bill (Mary) Burkett, Joe (Liz) Burkett, Mike (Tammy) Birkett, niece Caroline (Jay) Nelson, Linda Hanna, cousin, Carol Kilts and special friends Pat (Nimtz) Coffman and Don Coffman, Ginny Reinhold, and Ida Engberg.

She was preceded in death by her birth parents, her parents, brothers, Lauren, Paul, and sisters, Elsie, and Ruth Zahller, nephew Edwin Zahller, and niece, Ann Marie and special friends Beth and Nellie Davies.

Services will be held on December 17, 2022, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 675 North Mulford Road, Rockford, IL, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45. A luncheon will be held at the church immediately following the service.

Memorials to St. Mark Lutheran for the Youth Program, or to the Swedish American Medical Foundation.

Inurnment to be in the family plot at Scandinavian Cemetery at a later date.
