Obituary

DAVID KARL BRIED, 48 NASHVILLE, Tenn. - David Karl Bried, 48, of Nashville, Tenn., passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. Born Sept. 3, 1964, in Rockford; the son of Lynndon and Sandra (Talkington) Bried. Graduate of Rockford East High School class of 1982 and Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, with a B.S.M.E. degree. Married Elizabeth Shannon Fields Oct. 25, 1997, in Rockford. They have one daughter, Sophia Elizabeth Bried, age 2. David worked at Newell in Freeport, J.L. Clark in Rockford, and U.S. Smokeless Tobacco in Nashville. He held 20 patents in window hardware and packaging designs. Hobbies included fishing, fly fishing, boating, waterskiing, golf, woodworking, he built many pieces of beautiful furniture for his home and he traveling, particularly to the Gulf with his family. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Beth"; daughter, Sophia; father, Lynndon (Susan) Bried; mother, Sandra Bried; father-in-law, Jim Fields; sister, Cynthia (Charles) Johnson; half-brothers, Ryan and Jason Bried; nieces, Samantha and Chelsea Johnson; uncles, Richard (Christy) Bried and Russell Edwards; and many cousins. Preceded in death by grandparents, David and Helen Talkington and Herman and Louise Bried; mother-in-law, Joan Fields; and aunt, Eileen Edwards. The family would like to thank the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Alive Hospice for the gentle care that David received during his illness. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, in Tabor Lutheran Church, 2233 12th Ave., with Pastor Jane McChesney officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., and from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Saturday prior to the service in the church.
