Lloyd Carlson Obituary
Lloyd D. Carlson, 77, Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend and Church Member, entered the gates of heaven peacefully the evening of Thursday, April 3, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Lloyd was born on July 27, 1947, in Rockford, Illinois to Stanley and Julia Pearl (Matthews) Carlson. He graduated from East High School in Rockford, Illinois and John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. On June 3, 1972, he married the love of his life, Marcia Matthiesen at Calvary Baptist Church in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marcia; son, David; daughter, Jennifer Gierke (Sam); son, Andrew (Jeanna); and five grandchildren, Jack, Allyson and Katelyn Gierke (Jennifer), Henry and Finn Carlson (Andrew). He is further survived by two sisters, Lois Dament (James) and Linda Ohlson; sister-in-law, Linda Carlson; seven nieces; eight nephews; along with many other friends and relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry; infant brother; and brother-in-law, Harry.

Lloyd grew up in the First Baptist Church of Rockford, IL and was then a faithful member of the Berean Baptist Church in Rockford for more than 50 years, serving in various capacities including deacon and usher. He worked at the Woodward Governor Company in Rockford, IL for 42 years as a Mechanical and Quality Control Engineer. He always loved a good meal and usually seconds. He was an avid Chicago sports fan, hobby golfer in his earlier days and the biggest fan for his children and grandchildren’s various sports, musical and other activities and was always bragging on them to whoever would listen.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am with a Visitation from 10:00am until the service on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Berean Baptist Church, 5626 Safford Road, Rockford, IL 61101. All are welcome to join the family at the graveside service at Scandinavian Cemetery, 1700 Rural Street, Rockford, IL 61107.
