Obituary
Evert Lloyd Venstrom, 89, of Rockford, died at 9:06 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in his home. Born Feb. 13, 1923, in Rockford; the son of John A. and Mary (Blomquist) Venstrom. Graduate of East High School class of 1941 and Marquette University with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, where he was awarded membership in three Honorary Engineering Societies, and Who"s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Received commission as ensign in the U.S. Navy from Annapolis and served as an engineering officer aboard an aircraft carrier during World War II. He married Patricia J. Youngberg Sept. 4, 1948, in Rockford. Evert was employed by Twin Disc, Inc. for 34 years, retiring in 1982 as manager of Engineering Administration. Member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and as an usher. He was active in the Society of Automotive Engineering, served as president of Rockford-Beloit section, and served on national technical committees. Past president of the Rock Valley Kiwanis Club and the Golden Agers. He was active in the Y.M.C.A. Retired Men"s Club, serving as membership chairman and program chairman. Evert enjoyed golf, woodworking, and furniture refinishing. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Debra (Michael) DuCette of Wales, Wis. and Brian J. (Debra) Venstrom of Rockford; grandsons, Matthew (Rachel) and Mark DuCette, and Luke (Laura) and Andrew Venstrom; great-grandson, Jack Lloyd DuCette; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; and brother, Earl A. Venstrom. The family would like to thank Dr. Steve Diamond for his wonderful care through the years. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., with Rev. Dr. Michael Thomas officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 925 Fifth Ave.
