Obituary

Douglas J. Hildebrand, 94, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022. Born November 23, 1927, in Monroe Center, IL, the son of Kenneth J. and Florence (Reeder) Hildebrand. Douglas grew up and lived on farms his entire life. Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War and Purple Heart Recipient. He was a lifelong farmer. Douglas married Gladys Polson on November 11, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rockford. She predeceased him on September 21, 2002. He worked for Wallen Implement, Meridian Implements, Sandahl Farm Services and Rockford FS Stores. Douglas was a member of Mason 32nd Degree, and Shriner Honda Patrol – Dekalb County. He loved to go to antique tractors and toy shows. Survived by children, Brenda Hildebrand, John (Cindy) Hildebrand, and Anita (Bobby) Laurent-Fields; grandchildren, Corina (Simon) Woby, Justeen (Tom) Scales, Melissa Byars, and Joshua (Taylor) Byars; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mary-Shai, Ava, Talon and Kaleb; and sisters, Avis Hall and Pricilla “Pat” Kruger. Also predeceased by his siblings, Eleanor, Charles, Irvin, Linda and Sharon; and son-in-law, Marc Laurent. The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford with Rev. Robert Melon from Monroe Center Community Church. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. prior to the service with Masonic Service to follow. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association.
