Obituary

Carl E. Lind, 95, of Rockford, passed away peacefully and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 9, 2019. He was born on August 14, 1923 in Rockford, the son of Charles Levin and Anna Olivia (Lindahl) Lind. Carl graduated from Rockford Central High School and attended Beloit College. He served in the Army Air Corps as First Lieutenant during WWII stationed in Italy. He was a navigator on a B-24 with the 783rd Bomb Squadron from July 1943 to October 1945. He spent most of his career at W. F. & John Barnes as a mechanical draftsman and finished his career at Sundstrand. Carl married Carol Greenberg on September 8, 1951 in Rockford. Carl was a loving husband and father who spent many vacation adventures with his family. Personal interests included camping, hiking and fishing with his family and friends, gardening, woodworking and reading. He was a very active member of Our Savior"s Lutheran Church for over 55 years. He also participated as a big brother for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and in the Beyer School "reading buddy" program. Carl did volunteer work for Midway Village, Klehm Arboretum, Natural Land Institute, Nygren Wetlands and the Swedish Historical Society and received the Senior Volunteer of the Year Award in 1997. He also attended annual reunions with his Air Squadron. The family is forever thankful for the excellent loving care from the staff at Fairhaven. Survived by his wife Carol (Greenberg); daughters Susan (Mike) Piippo and Lisa (Curt) Ippolito; son Chuck (Michele) Lind; grandchildren, Joanna (Matt) VonDerohe and Mark Piippo; great-grandson, Lincoln VonDerohe; and lifetime little brother, Tom Johnson, from the Big Brothers Association. Predeceased by parents; sister Jean Swift and infant sister, Olive Lind. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 at Fairhaven Retirement Center on Saturday January 19th with a brief service to follow.
