Obituary
Jeffrey “Jeff” Kent Johnson, affectionately known as "Fishbreath" to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on December 7, 2024, in Rockford, Illinois, at the age of 72.
Jeff attended Rockford East High School, where he laid the foundation for a life filled with dedication and service. He proudly served in the National Guard, demonstrating his commitment to his country. His professional life was marked by his expertise as a mechanic, having worked at Kurt’s Automotive and Rockford Radiator for many years, where he was known for his skill and reliability.
In his retirement, Jeff devoted his time to the Lyran Society, a cause close to his heart.
He served as Vice President for many years, and his efforts in organizing and improving the club were a testament to his generous spirit and community dedication. An avid fisherman, Jeff found joy and peace in the simple pleasures of life, often sharing his love for fishing with those around him.
Jeff’s sense of humor and easygoing nature endeared him to many, leaving a legacy of laughter and warmth. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Sarah (Michael), Hattie (Mike), and Abby, and a cherished grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Annie (Kevin), Jennie (Adam), Alex, Shaina, Dahlia, Rebecca, and Clara. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark (Estee) and Doug (Jackie), and his sister, Kari (Brooks). He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Kenneth and Virginia.
His memory will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved him.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Memorials to the family will be donated to the Lyran Society in Jeff’s honor for the restoration of the pavilion at the park.
