Carl Philip "Phil" Schwab 1929—2021
Carl Philip "Phil" Schwab, 91, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at P.A. Peterson. Born November 22, 1929, in Kewanee, IL, the son of Carl F. and Maude C. (Schluns) Schwab. Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps serving in Korea from 1952 to 1953 and 12 years in the Reserves. Graduate of Drury University and Northern Illinois University with a Masters in Educational Administration. Phil married Vivian M. Jorgenson on June 8, 1963 in Rockford. He was the Principal of Ralston Elementary School in the Harlem School District until his retirement in 1991. After retirement Phil worked at Aldeen Golf Club for many years. Phil was a member of Brooke Road Methodist Church, National Audubon Society, and Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. He was an avid bird watcher and a volunteer naturalist for Severson Dells Nature Center. Survived by wife, Vivian; daughters, Sheryl M. (Ken) Bard of Rockford, Sarah J. Jackson of Loves Park, and Susan L. Schwab of Portland, OR; grandchildren, Karin (Nathan) Bushaw, Stephen (Miranda) Lawrence, Toni Jackson, Kenneth Bard, Jr., Coty Jackson, Jordan Hollingshed, and Justus Hollingshed; and nine great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents; and brother, Paul Schwab.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford, IL with Rev. Violet Johnicker officiating. A walk-through visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
