John Arthur Richmond, 94, a Rockford, IL, area resident since 1953, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 30, 2025, in his home. John was born September 2, 1930, in Litchfield, NE, the son of Fred O. and Lois (Iseman) Richmond. He joined the U.S. Army in 1948, continued as a reservist until 1959 when he was discharged reaching the rank of master sergeant. He married Dorothy L. Meyer in February of 1951; she went to be with her Lord in January of 1985. In May of 1987, he married Vonna M. (Honeycutt) Wilson at Open Bible Center in Loves Park, IL. He retired from WA Whitney Corp. in 1990 as vice president of personnel. Member of Journey Church. Whether teaching a Sunday school class or one on one bible study or serving at the rescue mission John would share his love for the Lord at every opportunity. Baseball was his favorite sport both to play and watch though he participated in numerous other sports as well. He had many dear friends and loved his family. Survivors include his wife, Vonna; children, Chuck (Susan) Richmond, Steve (Beverly) Richmond, Karen Wilson, and Mike (Sharon) Wilson; grandchildren, John (Katy) Richmond, Nicholas (Kaylee) Richmond, Jessica (Steve) Laury, Mike (Brittany) Wilson, Jr., and Bobby (Anna) Wilson; numerous great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents.
Service at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Journey Church, 7825 Forest Hills Road, Loves Park, IL, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Memorials to Rockford Rescue Mission.
