Russell F. Cockrell II 1942—2016
Russell F.Cockrell II, 74, of Rockford, died May 21, 2016, in the V.A. Hospital in Madison, WI. Born February 28, 1942, in Rockford to Russell F. and C. Clemwell (Johnson) Cockrell. He was a self employed electrician and a handyman. Russell was an Army veteran of Vietnam, receiving a purple heart. He attended Rockford 1st Church, was a member of the Rockford Apartment Association, was an avid musician, swing dancer, tennis and volleyball player and enjoyed playing euchre cards. Survivors include 2 sisters, Clemae (Lloyd) Smith and Marie Beyerlein; nephews, Allen Smith and Brian Smith.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2016, in the Chapel of Cremation Society of Illinois, 6825 Weaver Rd. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, with Pastor Jason McClenthen officiating in the Chapel of Cremation Society of Illinois. Burial will be in Scandinavian Cemetery with military honors.
