Irene (Johnson) Meyer, 95, of Rockford, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, December 7, 2020 at Lincolnshire Place, Loves Park, IL. Born October 24, 1925, in Rockford, the daughter of Edward and Ruth (Swanson) Johnson. Irene married Kenneth Meyer on June 1, 1946 in Rockford. They were married for 68 years. She was a homemaker, caterer, and a lifetime member of First Covenant Church where she was involved in Covenant Companions, the visitation team, a deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and worked in the nursery. Irene will be remembered for her gift of cooking. She catered several dinners, weddings and special events. For years at least once a month she hosted in her home residents from PA Peterson for dessert and coffee. Irene loved playing the piano at home, church, the Chapel at PA Peterson and entertaining the residents of Lincolnshire.
Survived by her daughter, Barbara (Lewis) Blaising of Rockford; sons, Bradley (Shelley) Meyer of Roscoe, and Bruce (Theresa) Meyer of Holly Springs, NC; grandchildren, Julie Hulstedt, Matthew (Jenifer) Meyer, Melanie Meyer, Jamie (Greg) Zimmerman, Ginger (Ray) Brien, Lauren (Dan) Renz, and Andrew Meyer; several great-grandchildren; brother, Armour Johnson; and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; parents; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Johnson.
A walk-though visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Private family services will follow being officiated by Rev. Peter Dibley. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
