Obituary

Ronald Theodore Swanstrom, 79, of Rockford, passed away at home on December 24th, 2022, from complications of Parkinson’s. Ron was born April 26, 1943, to Theo and Helen (Bagdon) Swanstrom. He graduated from East High School in 1961 and Rockford College in 1965. Ron earned a scholarship to University of Chicago to study economics and received his master’s degree in 1966. Ron taught in Rockford schools for thirty-five years ending his career teaching economics at Jefferson High School. He was a medalist golfer at East High School and Rockford College and achieved three holes-in-one over many years of golfing with great friends. He was an avid golfer, cross-country skier, and a biking enthusiast. Ron was a sports fan and enjoyed attending sporting events often with family members, especially his grandsons. He was the treasurer of Salem Lutheran Church for fifteen years and was very active in many roles at Salem. Ron was very happy to be involved in all family events and wanting to make those events fun and memorable.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of fifty-five years, Donna; children, Kristin (Kevin) Maurer and Jay (Tricia) Swanstrom; four much loved grandsons, Sean and Andrew Maurer, Cole and Elijah Swanstrom.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday December 30th, 2022, at Salem Lutheran Church, 1629 S. 6th St, Rockford, IL., 61104, with Pastor Bill Dahlberg to officiate. Visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
