Obituary
Kathleen M. Swanson, 82, of Rockford, passed away on December 8, 2014, in her home. Born June 20, 1932, in Rockford; the daughter of Robert L. and Mildred C. (Swenson) Johnson. Katie was a 1950 graduate of East High School and attended North Park College. Katie married Jack Swanson on June 27, 1953, in Rockford. She was a member of Bethesda Covenant Church for 65 years. Katie was a Sunday school teacher, choir member, member of the Kathryn Circle for 58 years and a deaconess. Also a member of PEO Chapter CJ and Forest Hills Country Club for 52 years where she enjoyed playing golf. She loved her Monday morning breakfast club and Wednesday afternoon lunch groups. What Katie enjoyed most in life was her love for her family and friends. She loved cooking and entertaining; you never left her home without her homemade cookies or her Swedish Skorpa. One of the most important gifts that Katie had was her ability to make everyone feel important and welcome. Her love for Jesus shinned though her in every moment of her life. She truly was a gift to all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, John "Jack" ; children, Janice (Louis) Bufalo, Bruce (Sally) Swanson, and Karl (Jill) Swanson; grandsons, Robert and Troy Swanson; granddaughters, Erica, Cori and Hannah Swanson, and Kayla (Lucas) Swatzell; sister-in-law, GG Johnson; brother-in-law, Gene Swanson; step-granddaughter, Alexa Howell; step-grandson, Blake Bufalo; along with numerous nieces ,nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by her parents; brother, William R. Johnson and sister-in-law, Joan Swanson. Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014, in Bethesda Covenant Church with Pastors David Lindfors and Richard Rasanen officaitng. Visitation will be on Friday, December 12, 2014, from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the church. The family prefers memorials to be made to Bethesda Covenant Church, 2101 E. State St. Rockford, IL 61104.
