JOHANNA M. VALIULIS, 75 LOVING MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER AND MOTHER-IN-LAW ROCKFORD - Johanna M. Valiulis, 75, of Rockford died at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, April 25, 2010, in Sienna on Brenden-wood. Born July 16, 1934, in Peoria, the daughter of Fritz and Wilhemina Krause. She attended Burbank Junior High in Burbank, Calif., and graduated from Muldoon High School in 1952. Attended Cook County School of Nursing, where she graduated as a certified student nurse Sept. 27, 1954. Attended St. Anthony Hospital School of Nurses and obtained her registered nurse degree Nov. 18, 1955. Worked as a registered nurse for Winnebago County Health Department from October 1989 through October 1999. She was very active in her children's lives, was a room mother for all of her children and with them throughout their schooling. Known for her cooking, Johanna would cook for a family of 11 everyday and then cook for charities, holidays, the sick and homeless. Known especially for her holiday arrangements of cookies! Active member of Holy Family Church and School; she was with the Holy Family choir for more than 20 years. Active in Catholic Women's League; president of the League 1977-78 St. Anthony's Pink Ball, St. Anthony School of Nursing Alumni Association, Holy Family Parish. Johanna had a "green thumb" and a passion for gardening and life. Survived by children, Stanley (Carrie) Valiulis, Julie Valiulis-Johnson, Karla Valiulis, Peter Valiulis, Mary Valiulis, Carl (Sonja) Valiulis and Thomas (Lisa) Valiulis; grandchildren, Stanley (Alison) Valiulis, Lindsey Valiulis, Emily (Scott) Valiulis-Danielson, Erik Valiulis, Anthony Valiulis, Grace Valiulis, Sophia Valiulis and Isabelle Valiulis; and great-grandchild, Parker Danielson. Predeceased by children, Ann Valiulis, Joan Valiulis and Daniel Valiulis. Special thanks to her caregivers, Ruth Dahlberg, Helen Segbedzi, Melissa Haws and Annie Tseveenkhuu. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 29, in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, with Rev. Monsignor Thomas E. Bales officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
