Loving Wife, Mother, Daughter and Sister

Dorothea (Dottie), Elizabeth Miller, 93 of Rockford passed away Sept 6th, 2021 at her home in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, after a brief illness. Born April 2, 1928 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, daughter of George and Molly (Ostermiller) Amen. Dottie was the youngest of 12 Amen children. She was a graduate of Scottsbluff High School. Married Richard L. Miller Feb. 19, 1949 and lived most of her life in the Belvidere and Rockford, IL area, where she was an active member of First Free Church. During her lifetime she was a Homemaker and worked at numerous retail businesses. She was a devoted Christian and served as Deaconess in her church, was a Sarah Circle Chairman, was a member of the Church’s Bible Study Fellowship, Rockford Christian Women’s Club and served as Chairman of the Fairhaven Sonrisers Senior Group.

She was an avid reader and studier of God’s word and enjoyed visiting and fellowship with those that had been widowed. Fond memories included camping and vacations out west to her childhood home as well as trips to Cancun with her late husband.

She is survived by son Brian (Brenda) Miller of Advance, NC, grand-daughter Jessica (Jim) Schneider and great grand-children, Lily and Jack Schneider. Pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, Richard L. Miller and her 11 brothers and sisters.

The family wishes to thank the Fairhaven staff and caregivers for providing a wonderful retirement and loving home for Dottie during her senior years. Special thanks to Rolf Egeland for being a devoted friend to Dottie and her family thru her last years on earth.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service on Monday, September 13, 2021 at First Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 2021 at First Free Church with Pastor Chuck Rife officiating. Fellowship refreshments to follow the service at First Free. Burial is on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Scandinavian Cemetery and is open to those that wish to attend.
