Obituary

Mary Mezner, 96, of Rockford, passed away on February 5, 2022. Born on July 28, 1925, to Joseph and Sadie Felland, she was raised on a farm near Clear Lake, WI. She was predeceased by her sister Betty and brother Bob. Mary moved to Rockford after high school to live with relatives and work in a munitions factory during the war. She put herself through secretarial school in the evenings and started a career as a bookkeeper. She married Edward Mezner in 1951 and they were married for 62 years until his death in 2014. They had 3 children and 5 grandchildren, and Mary’s most treasured role was as a loving Mom and Grandma. She stopped working outside the home to care for her children but continued to use her office skills in Ed’s home-based CPA business. Mary was also a prolific volunteer at many organizations including Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she was a member for nearly 50 years, Rockford Memorial Hospital, P.A. Peterson Home, and Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, where she lived since 2008. Ed and Mary were longtime members of the Blackhawk Trails Club and also enjoyed traveling the country and world. Mary is survived by daughters Julie (Randy) Trank of Winnebago, IL. and Laura (Dirk) Nelson of Minnetonka, MN.; son John (Rhonda) Mezner of Lamy, NM; grandchildren Carl and Christy Trank, Kari (Aaron) Kohrs, Sonja Nelson, and Joseph Mezner.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St., Rockford. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend. Private family burial at Scandinavian Cemetery.
