Obituary

Joyce Elaine Swanson, 75, of Rockford, a woman whose life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and dedication to her faith and to her family, passed away in her home on July 22, 2025. Born on September 30, 1949, in Rockford, IL, to Stanley and Margaret (Challberg) Hoffman. Her formative years were spent in Rockford, where she graduated from East High School class of 1967. She furthered her education by earning a degree from Bethel University (St. Paul, MN) class of 1971. While at Bethel, she found her soul mate in Larry Swanson, and together they built a life together. She dedicated her heart and soul to the role of caregiver and nurturer to her family. She found her true calling in the quiet, everyday acts of love that shaped her family's lives.

Joyce's passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who loved her. Her kindness and unwavering love will be deeply missed. Though her physical presence is gone, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to her care team for the compassion and support that they provided.

She is survived by her children, Tera Swanson, Jena (Ryan) Fulton, Brent (Pamela) Swanson; grandchildren, Samantha, Tamia, and Harrison; great-grandchild, Milo; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many extended family members including nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Larry Swanson; parents, Stanley & Margaret Hoffman; brother, Bill Hoffman; sisters, Sharon Colombi and Louise Carlson.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2025 @ 11:00am at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., Rockford, IL 61104 with Pastor Jeff Honson officiating.
