Obituary
Katherine E. Hogan died in the Neuro-ICU at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison, WI at the age of 60 years on December 10, 2022. She was born September 19, 1962 in Oil City, PA, daughter of Rev. Donald and Janet (Ankersen) Lavelle. She moved to Rockford with her family in February 1973, when her father was called to be pastor of Salem Lutheran Church in Rockford.
She graduated from East High School in 1980. Katherine married Gerald Hogan and they have a son, William. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Rockford where she sang in the church choir and with the Rockford Choral Union. Katherine was a beautiful, caring and loving person, evident in the raising of her son William and caring for his 3 sisters who were in her home at the time. Her caring for others was also evident in her decision to be an organ donor in giving life and hope to others.
Katherine had many influential positions during her adult career including, Linguist therapist with the Rockford 205 School District, Manager at Mary's Market, Assistant Manager at Hancock Fabrics and U-Store-It, and most recently manager at The Cheese Store. Most importantly she was a stay-at-home mother to her son William.
A special recognition to Dale Johnson, her devoted provider and caretaker as well as acting as power of attorney for her health care. Dale has been by her side as her dependable and dedicated companion.
Katherine also leaves her son, William; her father, Pastor Donald Lavelle; two brothers, John and Stephen Lavelle; and her little dog, Bella. Her mother Janet died recently this year.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17 at Salem Lutheran Church, 1629 S. 6th St., Rockford with Reverend William Dahlberg officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Masks are optional but if you are feeling ill, please take part in the service electronically. The funeral service will be available live stream on Salem Lutheran Church Facebook page.
