Obituary
Janet A. Lavelle died July 21, 2022, at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, Il at the age of 87 years. She was born October 21, 1934, in South Bend, Indiana, daughter of John and Stella Ankersen. The family moved to Galesburg, Il where her parents owned and operated the Scandia Bakery and Lunch. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1952 and from St. Olaf College in 1956. Her life was spent as an elementary school teacher. She loved music and played flute in the St. Olaf Collage Band and the Galesburg Symphony Orchestra. She married Pastor Donald Lavelle on July 4, 1959. Their three children are Stephen, Katherine, and John (Kristine). The grandchildren are Erin, Abby, and William. The family loved camping and traveled throughout the country. After retirement, in 1998, Janet and her husband enjoyed a number of vacations, including cruses, all over the world. Janet was a member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Janet was a warm, loving, and compassionate person always wanting to learn about people. She had a deep social concern for the equality of all people.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Salem Lutheran Church, 1629 S. 6th Street, Rockford, IL with Reverend William Dahlberg officiating. Visitation from 9:00-10:45 am prior to the service at the church. Private burial at Scandinavian Cemetery.
