Martha Engelkes 1935—2016
Martha L "Marti" Engelkes (Langmeier), 80, passed into Gods hands at her daughter's home in Rockford, Illinois on Feb 11, 2016, after a brave battle with cancer. She was born Oct 15th, 1935, in Winston County Alabama to Maurice and Dennie Burnett. She was one of 11 siblings and was raised and attended school in Alabama. She moved to Chicago in the 1950's and then to Rockford where she raised her family, retired, and enjoyed many friends. She was a member of Brooke Road United Methodist Church, their United Methodist Woman's group, its one time Program Chair, and once served as the church Archivist. She is survived by her daughter, Lori (Glen) McKinney and their daughter, Sara. Son, Jeff (Kristen) Langmeier and their children, Hannah, Dylan, and Elizabeth. Sisters, Mildred Martin and June (George) Rogers of Michigan, brother, Johnnie (Judy) Burnett of Georgia, extended family and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by many beloved family members. We wish to thank everyone for their love and support.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at Brooke Road United Methodist Church. The Reverends ChungNam Kwak and Joe Warner will officiate. Marti will be interred in a private ceremony at Scandinavian Cemetery in Rockford. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the church or the family.
