Obituary
Nancy R. Greenberg, 80, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021. She was born to the late Reay and Gladys Richards on August 31, 1940, in Rockford. Nancy received her GED in January 1971. She was the bookkeeper for A1 Lapping from January 5, 1979 until her retirement in 2019. Nancy also was a bookkeeper for various other small businesses in the Rockford area. She took great pride in her work and would work until the books were to the penny.
Nancy had a lifelong connection to giraffes due to her height. She collected numerous giraffes over the years, which included all types and sizes. This collection includes leather, glass, wood and a 6-foot-tall concrete giraffe. You can only imagine the sight of the 6-foot-tall giraffe sitting in the back of a pickup truck being driven down the road.
Nancy had a soft spot in her heart for all animals, especially dogs. She has had the privilege of sharing the lives of 4 dogs: Rusty, Tuffy, Mindy, and now Buddy lovingly called “My Buddy”.
She enjoyed long rides with no set destination or time schedule so you could stop and check out whatever you happened to see, or just sitting outside and taking everything in.
Survived by her two children, Debbie of Rockford and Gordy (JoAnn) of Pecatonica; two grandchildren, Jason of Pecatonica and Jamie (Adam) of Lake Summerset; four great-grandchildren, Morgan & Bryce and Madison & Ethan; siblings, Bonnie (Paul) of MN, Fred (Laurie) of TX, and Sue (Jim) of IN; extended family, Shelley of Lanark, Mandy (Jeff) of IA and Daniel (Brooke) of WI; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her life partner, CA Lundy. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Northern IL Hospice and River Bluff Nursing Home.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2021 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. prior to the service. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Best Friends Animal Society, bestfriends.org
