Obituary

Naty Cancio Zayco, 83, of Rockford, passed away January 18, 2022. Born September 18, 1938 in the Philippines, the daughter of Jorge and Consuelo (Colendrino) Cancio. A resident of the Rockford area since 1997 coming from metro Manila, Philippines. Married Celso Zayco, Jr. on January 14, 1967 at Santissimo Rosario Church in Manila, Philippines. Naty was a college professor of Philosophy, Humanities and Letters teaching at Far Eastern University, De La Salle College and Colegio De San Agustin. Naty enjoyed traveling, reading non fiction books, cooking, loved gardening, was a green thumb in cultivating orchids, loved watching and feeding wild birds, spoke 7 languages, loved photography, loved family dogs, Jack and Chip. Most of all, she adored being a grandma and constantly spoke of her grandchildren. Naty was a woman of strong faith and was very prayerful.

Survivors include daughters, Gina Afable, Kathleen (Kent) Henschen; grandchildren, Evan, Erica, Derek Henschen; and sister, Lydia Cancio. Predeceased by husband, Celso Zayco, Jr.; parents; sisters, Estrella Cancio, Agnes Cancio; and brothers, Jesus Cancio and Jorge Cancio, Jr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, January 27, 2022 in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery, Rockford. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory - Mulford Chapel, 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park.
