NORMAN G. NELSON, sr., 85 ROCKFORD - Norman G. Nelson, Sr., 85, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. He was born March 5, 1929, in Cranston, Rhode Island; the son of Elving and Sigrid (Swanson) Nelson. He married Joanne Colombo on May 20, 1957, in Ottawa, Illinois. He served in the United States Army. He was employed with Winnebago Lumber and Alpine Lutheran Church. He is survived by his wife, Joanne; children, Susan (Randy) Frye, Laura (Jack) Peterson, Dennis (Debbie) Schroeder, Patrick (Jenny) Schroeder, Sharon (Fred) Semple, Debbie Wieland, Barbara (William) Olson, Margaret Gilmore, Mary (Ken) Perkins, Norman (Michelle) Nelson Jr., Dennis (Cindy) Bogdonas, Larry (Debbie) Bogdonas, Vicki (Walt) Kirkaldie, and Lee (Joy) Bogdonas; daughter-in-law, Lindy Schroeder; 30 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; sister, Thelma Lindberg in 2003; and son, John Schroeder in 2006. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2014, in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., North Main Chapel, 2811 N. Main St., Rockford, with Pastor John Heins officiating.
