Obituary

anice “Jan” M. Kooistra, 67, of Rockford was called home Tuesday, December 28, 2021. Born February 14, 1954, in Rockford, the daughter of Robert E. and Elsa M. (Nystrom) Borchardt. Attended Keith Country Day School, graduated from Guilford High School, Class of 1972, and Rockford College, Class of 1976. Married Henry R. Kooistra on September 11, 1976, in Rockford. Member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church. Jan loved reading, gardening, classical music, playing with her boxers and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family. Survivors include her daughters, Nicole (Michael) King and Rachel (Todd) Kooistra; grandchildren, Ben, Jack, Jane, and one on the way; brother, Steven (Cynthia) Borchardt; sister, Lynn Lindquist; brother-in-law, Larry (Sandy) Kooistra; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents and husband. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Bickford House and the nurses and staff on the COVID unit at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for their kindness and compassion.

Service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2021, in Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2001 North Alpine Road, Rockford, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
