Obituary

Robert Hallen of St. James City, FL, died on February 21, 1999 at the age of 79 years. Born in Hunter, IL on Jan. 4, 1920. Enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Flew 52 missions in B-24 bombers over the South Pacific. Was decorated with the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, and numerous Air Medals. Honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He retired after a 40 year career as a General Building Contractor in Rockford, IL. Was a lifetime member of BPO Elks Lodge #2596 and VFW #4353 (of Pine Island, FL). He was also a member of the Cape Coral, FL Moose Lodge #2199 and the Pine Island American Legion Post #136. A member of the Ancient Order of the Masons #102 (42 years), the Tebala Temple of Rockford, IL and the Freeport Consistory.

Bob was a devoted husband and beloved father, a better-than average fisherman, golfer, and a really nice guy.

Survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marilyn E. (Olson) Hallen; daughter, Vickie Thomas and her husband, Jerry Thomas of Rockford, IL; son, Gary Hallen and his wife Linda Hallen of Huntersville, NC; two brothers: Walter Hallen of Belvidere, IL and E. Don Hallen of Durham, NC; brother-in-law, Ray Olson of Rockford, IL; four grandchildren: Jennifer Thomas, Todd Thomas, Stacey Crosby and Kevin Hallen; great-granddaughter, Kiley Thomas and two step-grandchildren: Tracy Campbell and Brian Oliver.

The funeral will be held in Rockford, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Robert Hallen Fund for Alzheimer's Research; P.O. BOX 59, St. James City, FL 33956.
