Obituary

Marilyn E. Hallen, 84, of Rockford, formerly of St. James City, Fla., passed away at 11:50 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2011, in OSF Saint Anthony Hospital. Born August 17, 1926, in Rockford, the daughter of Ralph Olson and Muriel (Bressler) Olson-Cotton. Graduate of East High School. Married Robert V. Hallen July 23, 1955, in Rockford; he predeceased her February 21, 1999. Marilyn co-owned Robert Hallen, Inc; General Contractors. Former member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved golfing, boating, playing cards and cooking. Marilyn also enjoyed spending time at her summer home in Green Lake, Wis. and entertaining their many friends. Survivors include her children, Vickie (Jerry) Thomas of Belvidere, and Gary (Linda) Hallen, of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Stacey Crosby, Todd Thomas, Jennifer Thomas, and Kevin Hallen; many great-grandchildren; Brothers in Law, Don and Walter Hallen. Predeceased by parents; and two brothers, Ralph and Ray Olson. Funeral service will be 11 am Friday, January 28, 2011 in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 2nd Ave., with Rev. Dr. Chuck Olson officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation from 10 to 10:45 am Friday prior to the service in the chapel. Memorials to Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001, in memory of her husband Robert.
