Obituary

ROCKFORD – Merle Ren Keena, age 102, of Rockford passed away peacefully at home Friday May 17, 2019. Born in Eagle Grove, IA on March 30, 1917 to James William & Buela Keena (Martin). He married the love of his life Stella Irene Peterson on June 10, 1939 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rockford. A rock-hound; Merle loved turning precious stones into beautiful jewelry. He enjoyed repairing everything from lamps to lawn mowers and was recognized as a talented handyman. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dear friend; he will remain in our hearts forever.

He is survived by his wife of 80 years, Stella Keena (Peterson); children, Judy (Paul) Struven & Jerry Keena; numerous grandchildren & many great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Howard Bellars. He is predeceased by his daughter, Sandra Bellars; and grandson, Jeffrey Struven.

Celebration of Life Memorial held Friday May 24, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Christenson Funeral Home, 925 3rd Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 10:30 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Cremation rites accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Heartland Hospice.
