Obituary

Dorothy M. Swenson, 94, of Rockford passed away August 24, 2021, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born January 20, 1927, in Belvidere, daughter of Ray and Evelyn (Spengler) McKiski. Married Carl E. Swenson on February 2, 1946, in Rockford. Formerly employed by Rockford Screw Products. Owned and operated Swenson’s General Store and Stillman Valley Inn. Longtime proprietor of the Rock Cut State Park Concession Stand. She enjoyed playing cards, board games, dominoes, Rummikub, bingo and going to the casino to play the penny slots. Dorothy loved sweets, fishing in Minnesota and spending time with friends at Fairhaven. Survivors include daughter, Sharon (Ronald) Neuschwander; grandchildren, Michelle (Hunter) Bittle-Underhill, Chad (Rachel) Neuschwander, Ronnie Neuschwander, Ricke (Krystyna) Neuschwander, and Nichol (Jim) Meneley; great-grandchildren, Emma, Taylor, Turner, Hudson, Brodie, Georgi, Isabelle, Daniell, Mackenzie, and Sofia; sisters-in-law, Janice Swenson and Ruth McKiski; many wonderful nieces and nephews; special friends, Debby McCauley and Barb Andrews; and grand-dogs, Cooper and Bella. Predeceased by parents; husband; brother, Herb McKiski; brother-in-law, Robert Swenson. Special thanks to the staff at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center and OSF Hospice for their compassionate care.

Graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021, in Scandinavian Cemetery, 1700 Rural Street, Rockford. Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2021, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
