Obituary

Leonard J. Kinberg, 102, died, Monday, November 29, 2021 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, where he had been a resident in the Health Center for nine years. Born September 27th, 1919 in Rockford, Illinois, son of Carl and Mable Kinberg. Married Dorothy Lee Anderson on March 7, 1941. She died in February 1989. Graduated from Rockford Central High School in 1937. Employed by Central Illinois Electric and Gas Co. and its successor Commonwealth Edison Co. for 41 years. Veteran of W.W. II having served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Corps. Member of First Evangelical Free Church since 1938. Served on the Church Council, Executive Board, as an Usher and on various committees. Charter member of Rockford Golden K Kiwanis, serving as secretary and president. A member of the City of Rockford Electric Commission from 1970 to 1980. Len was always thankful for life, his family and many friends. He enjoyed nature and being outdoors, especially living on Rock River and boating on his pontoon. He also enjoyed watching sports on TV and playing golf. He said hitting the ball and getting a good score were important but being with his friends and the fellowship in the time together was more important.

Survived by son Greg, (Glenn) of Southport, North Carolina, two grandchildren, Ruan Kinberg of Buena Vista, CO and Luke Kinberg of Charlotte, NC. Predeceased by wife and daughter Gail, brothers Lloyd and Carl and sister Helen Krull.

Memorial Service and reception will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at First Free Church, 2223 N. Mulford Rd., Rockford with Reverend Chuck Rife officiating. Private burial was held in Scandinavian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to First Free Church or Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center 3470 N. Alpine Rd., Rockford, IL 61114.
