Mavis E. Arends, 101, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born June 14, 1921, in Marwood, PA, the daughter of Rev. George and Otelia A. (Bock) Hoyer. She was the organist in her father’s church. Mavis married Raymond T. Arends D.D.S. on April 15, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY. He predeceased her on April 21, 1998. She was a school secretary for 40 years in Dearborn, MI prior to moving to Rockford. Mavis was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church where she was a part of LWML, Moses-Senior Group and Women’s Bible class. She volunteered for Northern Illinois Hospice, OSF Cancer Center and Fairhaven. Survived by her children, Dr. George (Rhonda) Arends and Patricia (Patrick) Lawless; grandchildren, Dana Arends, Kristin (Andy) Hayward, Mark Arends, Katie (Nick) Lawless-Turner, and Christy (Nick) Kouris; and grandchildren, Lucy & Cooper Hayward, William & Maya Lawless-Turner, and Tommy & George Kouris. Also predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Paul Hoyer and Frederick Hoyer; and her twin sister, Aileen Rucker. The family wishes to thank Fairhaven and Northern Illinois Hospice.

Memorials Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Fairhaven Retirement Center, 3470 N. Alpine Rd., Rockford with Pastor Dan Herman officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Milestone Inc., 4060 McFarland Rd., Rockford, IL 61111.
