Kathleen Greenland 1928—2016
Kathleen Greenland, 88, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016. She was born July 12, 1928, in Milwaukee, WI, the daughter of Roy and Ethelyn (Edquist) Buswell. She was a 1946 East High School graduate. She graduated from Carthage College (Carthage, Illinois) in 1950. She married James W. Greenland on June 21, 1952 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. They enjoyed 64 years of life together and had 2 daughters. Kathleen began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Loves Park School District. She returned to the work force after their children were in school. She was employed by the Rockford School District as an elementary school librarian for over 20 years, retiring in 1986. Kathleen enjoyed sewing, cooking and family gatherings. She liked playing bridge with friends. Her favorite place to relax was at their lake cottage in Wisconsin. She loved to swim and take rides on the pontoon boat. She also enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States. She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughters, Bonnie (Scott) Sasse of Evansville, WI and Susan (Mike) Luna of Winnebago, IL; grandchildren, Eric and Laura Sasse and Joshua, Kristi and Jason Luna; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Ethelyn Buswell, and brother, James Buswell.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 200 N. 1st St. Rockford with Rev. Jay Quinn officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
