Obituary

William D. Hoffman, 84, of Rockford, Illinois passed away on November 3, 2024. He was born September 29, 1940, in Rockford, the son of Stanley and Margaret (Challberg) Hoffman. He graduated from East High School, Class of 1958. William married Kathleen M. Johnson on October 21, 1961. He enjoyed his work and did it well, from his paper route, to the Rockford Register Star, Top Hat Typographic, John Green Press/Holden Business Forms, Gibbs Accounting, Martin Gustafson, many years as a tax preparer, and at Judson University for 20 years. William was also a long-time member of Temple Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Jeffrey (Michelle) Hoffman, Gregory (Amanda) Hoffman, and Heidi (John) Larson; grandchildren, Nicholas (Melissa) Hoffman, Kristin (Patrick) Scholz, Joah Hoffman, Zachary (Taylor) Larson, Trevor, Maggie, Skylar, and Leah Larson; great-grandchildren, Isaac Hoffman, Ethel Scholz, Liam Larson, and Foster Scholz; sister, Joyce Swanson; sister-in-law, Mary Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Louise Carlson and Sharon Colombi; and brothers-in-law, Larry Swanson, Terry Carlson and Tom Johnson.

William was a caring husband, a kind father, and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with an open heart and hand. He had a strong faith, compassionate heart and a quiet, steady presence, and he will be deeply missed by his family and community.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
