Harold R. “Robert” “Bob” Wright, Jr., 102, of Rockford, passed away on Friday, August 20, 2021 at North Pointe Terrace. Born August 17, 1919, in Seward, IL, the son of Harold R. and June M. (Peterson) Wright, Sr. Graduate of Harlem High School, Class of 1938. Veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a rifleman with a Seventh infantry regiment and fought in the Battle of the Colmar Pocket in Alsace. He then would go into Germany where he would be held prisoner of war in March of 1945 and later freed by American Forces in April 1945. Bob married Doris VanCura on January 7, 1962. Doris was the love of his life. He worked for Illinois Bell Telephone for 38 years before retiring. Bob was a loving father and devoted husband. He loved the Wisconsin Badgers and attended games with his family every year. Bob loved to watch sports on TV, especially golf. He loved having his family around all the time. Bob will truly be missed by family, friends, and the staff of Beloit Regional Hospice & North Pointe Terrace.
Survived by his wife, Doris; children, Jerry Wright, Barb (Jeff) Martin, and Bradley (Cheryl) Wright; step-children, Maureen Marshall, Stephan VanCura, and Wendy (Sid) Moate; grandchildren, Brian, Tom & Paul (Christine) Drahiem, Greg (Annette) Wright, Jonathan (Sharon) & Jeff Person, Jennifer, Timothy & Matthew (Caitlin) Marshall; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; siblings, Marilyn Lind and Gloria Dibler; son-in-law, Ron Marshall; grandson, Dylan VanCura; and great-granddaughter, Tatum Marshall. The family is grateful for the great care Beloit Regional Hospice and North Pointe Terrace gave Bob.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave., Rockford. Private burial in Scandinavian Cemetery at a later date.
