Obituary
James Greenland, 95, of Rockford, passed away on Tuesday February 22, 2022. He was born in Rockford, the son of Raymond and Agnes (Hawkinson) Greenland. He graduated from East High School in 1945. Upon graduation, he was drafted and served in the Army of the United States, Troop A 24th Constabulary. He was a supply sergeant in the mechanized cavalry and was stationed in Scharding, Austria. He attended Rockford School of Business and Carthage College (Carthage, Illinois) on the GI bill. Jim married Kathleen Buswell on June 21, 1952 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. They enjoyed 64 years of life together. Jim had a long career at Elco Industries as a production control scheduler and later as a purchasing manager, retiring in 1989. Jim enjoyed time with his family at their lake cottage in Wisconsin. He also enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. Jim was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Bonnie (Scott) Sasse and Susan (Mike) Luna; grandchildren, Eric and Laura Sasse and Joshua, Kristi and Jason Luna; brothers Rollin Greenland and Richard (Helen) Greenland; sister-in-law Christine Buswell and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, brother-in-law James Buswell, and sister-in-law, Barbara Greenland.
Memorial Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 200 N. 1st St. Rockford, IL with Rev. Jay Quinn officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon, IL or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
